Whenever we travel to Hong Kong, we usually like to tag on a short side trip, since it’s fairly inexpensive and convenient to hop over to a whole different country. This time, we picked Taipei. My sis found a cozy little Airbnb for us, and hired a driver to take us around since we had limited time to explore.
We arrived in the late afternoon and after settling into our Airbnb, walked a few blocks to a nearby night market. Taipei is known for its many night markets that boasts of delicious street food, cheap buys, and interesting entertainment. It was hard to choose which booth to indulge in as they all looked and smelled so good!
We woke up bright and early the next morning, and enjoyed a delicious Taiwanese breakfast. It was a hole in the wall kind of local restaurant, and the food was truly fantastic, but the cleanliness of the place was definitely questionable as we saw so many cockroaches running around as we were leaving!

After breakfast, we stopped at Eslite Bookstore, which is one of the largest retail bookstore chains in Taiwan. One entire floor was a Maker’s floor, and had different stations that allowed you to make anything from clay dolls to leather bags to jewelry. The pricing was pretty steep to us, so we let the girls choose just one thing to make.

After spending a good few hours at Eslite, we moved on to afternoon tea at the Hello Kitty Cafe. I was so excited to see it in person and it did not disappoint! The furniture was so cute, and even the food had Hello Kitty details to it. The little girl in me came out and I could not stop taking photos! 🙂 Thank you to my mom and sis for being such good sports about my Hello Kitty craziness!
