Back to our San Diego trip from April! Part I was about our ride down south, and our first day spent at Sea World. Next up–San Diego Zoo Safari Park! I had been to San Diego Zoo many years ago to see the pandas, but Safari Park hadn’t been built then, so I was really eager to take the girls there on this trip, and to experience it myself. Getting to go on a real safari in South Africa has been on my bucket list for quite some time now. Until I get to cross that off, Safari Park will have to do for now….

The butterfly exhibit was my favorite, though the girls were a bit scared to have so many butterflies swirling around them and eventually landing on them. After my reassurance that butterflies choose very special people to land on, they were at ease and asked us to take lots of pictures. 🙂

The tram ride to see some of the African animals up close was exciting, and gave us a good glimpse of the diversity of the habitats there. I think it was a nice preview to what we’ll be experiencing one day in South Africa. 🙂
Another exciting part of our day there was getting really up close and personal to a live cheetah! Although the docents obviously had it under control, I still felt a rush of adrenaline when the cheetah looked straight at us….and his eyes told me he clearly saw us as potential prey.

After we left the Safari Park, I took us to one of my favorite places in San Diego–Extraordinary Desserts!!!
It’s pretty extraordinary alright! Endless displays of the most decadent cakes, pies, and all kinds of desserts. How is one to choose??

Part III. to come…
