I’ve planned many multi-generational trips through the years, and they’ve been pretty great with some challenges here and there. But, this recent trip to Vietnam was a total flop in terms of having all generations be happy. While the girls and I loved our time there, including everything we experienced, their grandparents were not very happy. It just wasn’t a place that gave them the comfort that they needed at their age, and our worldschooling itinerary was way too strenuous for them. When they asked to join our Vietnam trip, I was genuinely excited to have them get a first hand glimpse on what it’s like for us to travel for our worldschooling, but I guess I didn’t consider their needs too deeply to recognize how much they’d struggle with this style of traveling.
Traveling to places outside of my comfort zone can be challenging on many levels, but I still continue to do it because I love getting to see and experience what life is like for others. I love embracing the vastly different ways we live, learning to see the world through different lenses, hearing the stories of other people, and experiencing things that are unfamiliar to me.
Xin Chao! That’s “hello” in Vietnamese! We just spent a week in Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon) in Vietnam and it was filled with history lessons, cultural immersion, motorbike rides, and delicious coffee. Oh, and to keep things real…roaches. Lots of roaches. 😅
